PROCAFFEINATING | Nonna's Kitchen | My Current Brew

Good day guys!

I hope you all are not too busy to make yourselves a cup of your favorite brew. If you haven’t had your coffee yet, well, it’s not yet too late. If you still have time to sit in a coffee shop and you are somewhere east of Bacolod, why don’t you head out to Nonna’s Kitchen? This coffee place is my current favorite. Their coffee is really good and they have several choices to match your current coffee cravings.

My usual morning cup is filled with their yummy CARAMEL MOCHA. It has a delicious mocha taste; it’s frothy and drizzled with caramel sauce.

This is like my daily winder-upper. Give me a cup of this and I'm good through-out the day or until the afternoon at least (coz I need to have another cup by then).

Here is another of our favorite. The IRISH MOCHA. This one here is drizzled with chocolate syrup.

...and if you're a CAPPUCCINO lover, they also have that here at Nonna's Kitchen.

Me and my partner are regulars here. We visit almost every morning, at least four times a week for several months now. Their staff is really friendly, they even surprised me with a birthday song over breakfast.

Nonna's Kitchen doesn't only serve hot coffee, they also have cold/frozen coffee-based beverages. They also have cakes! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Nonna's Kitchen have great food listed on the menu that I have yet to try.

As for their coffee, it's a two thumbs up!

PALATE PLEASURES | Recipe: Patzee's Chicken Pesto Pasta

I am  a very big fan of pesto sauce. It's because of the distinct flavor it gives to the dish. I initially posted this recipe back in 2011, but it has been ages since I accessed that blog; I forgot the password. So, here you go! I'm posting it again.

My all-time favorite pasta :)

Before I give you the recipe of this delicious dish, let me give you a brief background about this kind of sauce.

Pesto (Italian pronunciation: [pesto]Genoese[ˈpestu]) is a sauce originating in Genoa in the Liguria region of northern Italy (pesto alla genovese). The name is the contracted past participle of the Genoese word pestâ (Italian: pestare), which means to poundto crush, in reference to the sauce's crushed herbs and garlic. This same Latin root through Old French also gave rise to the English word pestle.

Pesto is prepared in a marble mortar with a wooden pestle. The basil leaves are washed, dried, placed in the mortar with garlic and coarse salt, and crushed to a creamy consistency. The pine nuts are added and crushed together with the other ingredients. When the nuts are well-incorporated into the "cream", grated cheese and then olive oil are added and mixed. In a tight jar (or simply in an air-tight plastic container), pesto can last in the refrigerator up to a week, and can also be frozen for later use.Commercial pesto is commonly available in supermarkets in either green (original) or red (with sun-dried tomatoes or red bell peppers) varieties, produced by major manufacturers or under a generic or cheaper brand. Cashew nuts or walnuts are often used instead of pine nuts, because they are less expensive and have a similar texture. Cheaper oils and other herbs, like parsley, may also be used.

Enough about the history of the sauce! Now lets go to the recipe of the delicious dish pictured above.

Ingredients:

400g Linguine
4-5 Tbsp Filippo Berio Classic Green Pesto (available in SM Supermarket or Save More)
4 Tbsp virgin olive oil
1/4 K chicken breast fillet, cut into small strips
1 Tbsp Garlic, minced
1 Tbsp Onion finely chopped
Parmesan cheese
salt and pepper

Cooking Procedure:

1. Boil pasta according to package procedure. Set aside.
2. Heat olive oil in a skillet.
3. Sweat onions in the hot oil and turn heat low.
4. Put chicken strips until it is slightly brown.
5. When chicken is slightly brown put the garlic until slightly toasted. (make sure you DON'T burn the garlic!)
6. Take out of the heat. Mix in Filippo Berio classic green pesto. Add salt and pepper to taste.
7. Toss pasta in the sauce.
8. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese (lots of it!)

Makes 6-10 servings.
Note: the proportion in this recipe is based on my own liking. This blog is not sponsored by any of the brand mentioned above.

PROCAFFEINATING | My Relationship with COFFEE

Saying I love coffee is an understatement. I need it. I crave it. I have coffee cells in my blood and I think my brain is now in a coffee bean shape. Hahaha! But kidding aside, I'm the type of person who needs a cup of coffee to jump-start my day. I know I’m not alone. In a generation where everybody is always on the go, always up late and always sleep deprived, coffee is a staple beverage. This is one of the reasons why there are countless cafes and coffee stands in the city (Hallelujah!).

I am not very picky on where I get my coffee; I can get the ones from a fancy café or from a decent “kapehan” right across the street. At times I love my coffee strong and there are times when I want it sweet and frothy. Ahhhh… you know that feeling when you smell that aroma and you take the first sip? It’s like it touches you to the very depth of your soul. That's how coffee is for me.

How about you? Share your thoughts about coffee.

Follow me through my blog as I will soon be writing more about this magical beverage.

Fresh Start Organics' All Natural Insect Repellent | My Way of Saying I Love My Family

A weather like this can mean one thing; there will be more breeding habitats for mosquitoes, a fact that protective moms like me dread so much. I’m afraid of Dengue fever, who isn’t?!

After my son had Dengue fever when he was two, I, at all times would apply insect repellent lotion on his arms and legs to make sure he won’t be bitten by these pesky mosquitoes. I have tried almost all kind and brand of insect repellents. I have used almost all kinds, from lotions, to creams, to sprays and to the stick-on kinds. I also have used different brands, especially the popular ones that are sold in the market.

One thing I noticed though, is that these insect repellents most of the time would trigger my son’s allergies. He has asthma and as much as possible we avoid products with strong chemicals, scents or odor. This is one thing that is common in most insect repellent products; they have a strong smell.
I’m just so thankful that I finally found a product that is potent but very mild to the nose.
